The Remote Desktop Protocol, aka RDP, is Microsoft's way of providing you remote access to your Windows Server. It allows you to connect directly to your virtual private server's screen and use it as if you had a monitor, keyboard, and mouse connected. RDP is the perfect tool to use to connect to your virtual server because the client is already installed on your computer. That's right, all versions of Microsoft's desktop/laptop operating system come with the RDP client pre-installed. All you have to do is launch it, type your virtual server IP, and hit connect.

Which Clients Can Connect To The RDP VPS

If you are running A Windows Computer with the Below Operating System, you have the RDP client installed.

  • Windows 7

  • Windows 10

RDP VPS FAQ

AN RDP VPS is a virtual private server which has the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) enabled on build. Since RDP is enabled upon build of the virtaul server you can instantly access it using the RDP client on your computer.

RDP natively supports the copy-and-paste operation for both texts and files. Since copy-and-paste is supported, you can just copy files from your computer directly into the RDP window of your virtual server and they will transfer over.

RDP is just a application or service that runs on a server. To expand further, RDP is just the tool for connecting to the virtual server. Thus, there are multiple deployment types that use RDP. Some providers have users share a server and provide RDP connection to just one server. We do NOT do that here. Providing multiple RDP connections to multiple customers on just one server is highly insecure. Instead, ArticHost only allows one customer RDP connection per server. Thus you NEVER share the server with anyone.

Changing the RDP port won't stop brute force attacks. The attacker will just find the other port via a scan. Instead, we configure automatic RDP brute force protection on all of our VPS. If someone is attacking your RDP, it will be automatically stopped.
